The most recent Taxi post got me thinking, what is the next car that will dominate the Taxi world? When I was in Vegas over the summer there was a million different types of Taxi's out there. Scion xB's, Ford Escapes, Dodge Chargers, Chevy Malibu's, Dodge Grand Caravans, Ford Explorers, and a lot of other randoms ones, hell even saw a 3 series and an ATS. But which will be the next Crown Vic?

Hard to say, Maybe another panther like sedan will emerge? Here in DC, The Crown Vic and minivans pretty much rule the taxi world.

I have seen an Audi A4, and A6 taxi though. Older though, that's the Dc area for ya.

Something electric. In NYC they've already got a shitload of hybrids.

I wish it were the caprice, but no. GM is being annoying and only selling it to cops. It's nearly identical in size to the CV

Impala.

Either engine in it (2.5 or 3.6) has proved to be reliable in consumer use, It's fuggin huge in the back with a big trunk, probably rides well over bumps and potholes. and I'm sure it's incredibly cheap to service since it uses common GM parts.

there was a big contest to determine who would make the next NYC taxi.

i believe it was well documented on the FP.

the winner is a horrible looking, uncomfortable thing made by nissan.

Hey I took this picture! And I totally agree. The only worthy successor.

Pretty good, they tend not to be in the cab ranks, more a 'call a car' service, most run gas conversions. We've also got the Commodore and Falcon being used too, again most running LPG.

I think the prevailing winds are toward increased handicap accessibility, so I think we're going to see more and more vans or van-like tall boxes.

probably a combination of minivans, they have no resale value, are a fleet vehicle so parts are plentiful and cheap and they can hold a lot of people and a lot of stuff.
